Pioneer Communicators’ Workshop

POSTPONED

Based on survey results, the state’s current mandates and our desire to preserve the fun intimate nature of the event, the workshop is postponed, probably until Sept. 2022.

If you already paid your registration, you can seek a refund or roll it over. If you choose the rollover option, you can always ask for a refund at a later time. Rolling over will guarantee you both a spot for 2022 and a lock on the current conference rates.

More information is forthcoming.

Ready to be inspired? Pioneer is proud to announce the first details for this fall’s gathering on the Oregon Coast.

Meet our speakers:

Lauren Kessler, who has a passion for storytelling and serving community, will lead our writing sessions. Who is Lauren? She is an award-winning author, reporter and narrative nonfiction writer who immerses herself in everything she covers. Oprah and David Letterman have had a friendly book-club duel over Lauren, and she appeared twice on his late-night show. Best yet, Lauren is a huge Ruralite fan—she gets the Lane and Tillamook issues. She’s an experienced presenter who will inspire and offer ways to make your own writing better.

As a photojournalist, Billy Weeks has covered assignments that range from the World Series to small villages in Central America. His photographs of poverty in Honduras were selected as an award of Excellence for editorial photography in the Communication Arts Photography Annual. Additionally, he has won the Gordon Parks International Photography award twice. Weeks is a Lecturer in Communication at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and adjunct instructor in photojournalism at Southern Adventist University. He believes that not only should journalists cover their assignment, but they should also give something back to their profession.

The full workshop schedule is still nebulous as the programing stars are still aligning for our sessions. Check back for more updates!
