2019 Lineworker Appreciation Art

Free Resources to Celebrate Lineworkers

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s a… lineman!

Everyone needs a hero. At Ruralite, we look up to linemen. That’s why April is one of our favorite months. Utilities across America are taking time to celebrate 117,600 power line champions. Are you ready? If not, never fear–we have you covered.

Many utilities celebrate National Lineman/Lineworker Appreciation Day in April (April 8 or April 18; details below). To prepare, Assistant Editor (and photographer extraordinaire) Ethan Rocke visited our friends at Tillamook PUD, Oregon. We had a photoshoot with several of their linemen, then created a set of graphics to honor the people who keep powering on.

We designed 2 graphics to share with all of our members and public power friends. Feel free to use one or both of these graphics when you celebrate your lineworkers on social media.

This is a sample of what we created to celebrate Lineworker Appreciation Day. Utilities in Ruralite’s Social Media Support Program receive all 5 lineworker graphics.

Want to unlock all of our lineman love? Join our program and get a month’s worth of energy efficiency, safety, and holiday posts and graphics for free your first month.

If you’ve been thinking about trying our social media program, April is the perfect time to start.

Celebration Ideas

Social media is the first of many ways you can honor lineworkers. Brainstorming more ways to celebrate? Look past on our past blog posts, where we’ve shared several ways to honor the men and women on the lines:

Save the Date(s)

Since Congress designated April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day, utilities across the nation have taken time to #ThankaLineman. Resolutions have been introduced in Congress to set a firm annual date, but no action has been taken. Here’s when utilities celebrate in 2019:

  • April 8: Celebrated by many electric co-ops. Always falls on the second Monday of April, per a 2014 NRECA board resolution. (They changed the day’s name from Thank a Lineman to #ThankaLineworker in 2018, but most utilities use the original hashtag.)
  • April 18: The date marked by Congress in 2013 and still celebrated by some utilities. Visit the Lineman Appreciation Day website.
  • July 10: In 2017, the Edison Electric Institute started saluting the lineworker profession on July 10 to honor Henry Miller, a founder of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
